Hello to the Crook family. My mother emailed this link to me and I've just been able to read the latest. Thank you SO much for creating something like this so that all of us can keep check on a man that means so much to so many. I can only imagine what the family must be going through during this process. I began to tear up just reading about Mr. Crook's surgeries and all that he has gone through. I know that it must be even more difficult for y'all.

It's great to know that he has made it safely through the surgeries up to this point. He remains in my prayers and I think of him and the family on a daily basis. And as mentioned before, please let me know if there is anything that I can do - he has done so much for me and has had a huge impact on my life.

I love you Mr. Crook!

Dear Crook Family,

We never know where life is going to take us but we do know that there is ONE who goes with us everywhere - He never leaves us, nor forsakes us - His love surrounds His children and He picks us up and carries us in the palm of His hand when the burdens we bear throw us to our knees. Never got to be in his band, but was a 1974 EHHS graduate while Mr. Crook developed students into a spectacular symphony of instruments that kept us pepped up, filled our eyes with tears and drove us to our feet with cheers and enthusiasm every time the Band played!! Much love and prayers to all of you during a difficult time...just rest in His love...

All the years both Dianasue and I have played with you in NorthWinds (and the GSO), one of the highlights, past your great oboe playing, was your ongoing verbal banter with Ernie and others during rehearsals. I personally considered it a mark of respect to start getting occasional "insults" from my double reed colleague in recent years!

Seriously, though, the Crook family needs to know that Mercer contributed greatly to my personal rehab last year as I fought my own battle with cancer (lymphoma). Although the physical trauma I endured was completely different from what Mercer is going through now, I went through almost four months where I had neither the emotional nor physical strength to even get my bassoon out of its case. While still going through chemotherapy, and with the encouragement of so many of my musician (and non-musician!) friends, I finally "relearned" to play, again. When I finally showed up for NorthWinds rehearsals last winter, bald and still weak, Mercer ALWAYS had unsolicited kind words of admiration, concern, and encouragement for me as I struggled through this difficult period.

As one who has personally witnessed the emotional and spiritual power of knowing that so many were "on my side" during my time of need, Dianasue and I gladly add our names to this wonderful congregation of those praying for healing, comfort, and full recovery for Mercer, and add our prayers of support for the entire Crook clan! Continue to drink from the “half-full cup”!

Dear Mercer, Are your ears burning?! I just returned from Winder and your name came up quite frequently. While at home I saw Martha Jane (Hosch), Margaret (Austin), Lynn (Brown) and Melissa (Robison)and got caught up with the latest on your situation. Oh, and I ran into Larry Joe Wilburn at the DQ and he asked if I'd heard about what happened to you. Sure did hate to hear about the accident but it sounds like you had an angel on your shoulder that day because we could easily be talking about what a great guy Mercer "was" instead of how thankful we are that you were spared. I hope you continue to improve daily and that it won't be long before you can break out of there. Everyone is keeping you and your family in their thoughts and prayers. In case you can't place us, Pat graduated the same year you did. I was in the class of '67. You knew my mother , Dorrice Bolton. She is with the Lord now, but she always thought so much of you. Pat & I do, too.
By the way, we go to church with one of your fellow teachers, William Kilgore. He also lives down the street from us.
Well, enough of this...we're hoping to see you at the class reunion. May God bless you and your family (seems to me that you really have a good one!).
Get well soon, and always remember that God in in charge!

Well Mr. Crook, We are still praying for you , Mrs. Crook and all of the family. We know the healing prosess is going to take time, but we also know that you are a fighter, so, in time you WILL be back to your wonderful self, a leader, and an INTIMIDATEOR, but thats what makes us love and RESPECT you so much!! So Get Well, We Love You!!!

Mercer,
Michelle and I have everyone at our church praying for your speedy recovery. I know the students at GSC really miss you and want you back as soon as you are able. We know that you'll be back soon, forcefully voicing musical instructions to the band while they are playing and bringing out the best in them. God bless you and your family!

Dear Mercer,

I will ask God to get you out of this. I will keep banging on God's door until I get an answer one way or another. My father was a marine and their tenacity is like a bulldog. You and I graduated from UGA we are bulldogs together. Like a marine we don't stay down for long. You must get up and fight as a soldier in God's marine regiments like my father and my grandfather do in heaven. I will pray that now is not the time he wants you home. He who lives and reigns with you one God forever and ever Amen. BQ

You are on the offensive. You will win it. His healing is working with you now. I have every belief that you'll be back to your canterkerous self in no time. Just think of it you're giving your children gray hairs. If you can blink on your own then being awake isn't far away. Because God doesn't want you now he wants you to get well. BQ

So happy to hear the good news. I pray that each day will bring more good health to Mercer. My sister who lives in Canton had even heard about Mercer through a band director in Canton, so that shows how many people love Mercer and are praying for his full recovery. May God continue to be with all of you during this trying time.

Hi Christina and Mercer,

Have been thinking of you guys! Hope Mercer will be able to talk by Thanksgiving.

Christina, the GRW meeting went very well. I went ahead and took minutes so don't worry about that. Boy, I don't know how you do it! Comments were flying back and forth!

I'd like to come visit but I don't know when you'll be there. Do you know what your schedule will be this week? I'm off of work all week.

Blessings and prayers for both of you!

Love,
Anna

My dear friend Mercer. Keep hope alive. Realize you as a person are at least as good as your bands. You have to be to accomplish all you have done. I've read the entire report/blog and am convinced you have more living to do. Jemmay and I are praying for you.

Mr.Crook,
I have been checking on your progress
for the past weeks. I am so happy you are getting better. I know you have a long way to go but don't give up with Gods help you will make it. You have been such a great role
model for everyone that your life has come
in contact with.Just live each day the best you can and don't get upset when its not the way you want it to be,because God left you here a little while longer for a reason we don't know what but we are not suppose to ask God why just live life to the most.I had to write this to you because I had a dream about you last night and I had to tell you these things I don't know why but I'm not suppose to question God. Hope everything keeps improving, I love you an thanks for all the good times and memories.

I'm so glad to read of the wondeful progress you have made since your accident. As a student of Ben McClure's (JHS Class of '76), you and the EHHS band were always an inspiration to us at Jefferson! I know you're going to continue your amazing recovery and be ready for that May 2010 performance!
